He may be the only Nigerian artiste to be nominated for the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, but he is also the first African artist to be listed amongst international stars at this year’s awards. Wizkid, who unfortunately didn’t cop a Grammy earlier this year, bagged awards from three out of the seven categories he was nominated in.
His 2016 collaboration with Drake & Kyla in ‘One Dance‘ was the hit which had him nominated and we’re not surprised. The song had and still has the crowds going crazy; with his more recent collabo with Drake on ‘Come Closer‘ we are sure to see more awards coming his way. The relationship between the two artists is and without a doubt undisguised; and to be frank, we should be expecting more work from it, yes?
The award ceremony which was held Sunday night at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas saw Wizkid taking home the following awards:
– Top Streaming Song (Winner)
– Top R&B Song (Winner)
– Top R&B Collaboration (Winner)
“Starboy, call me number 1! When me tune drop, the girls, they bounce along. Me no let nothing come between me and me paper.” – Come Closer
We love seeing our African artists doing great things and showcasing their amazing talents abroad. Well done and big ups to the guy, Starboy dey here sir!
