The Happenings From MTV Africa Music Awards 2016

The red carpet was on fire last night as the stars came out in their droves to accept awards, perform on stage or just have a great party at the MTV African Music Awards 2016 (MAMA).

The Ticket Pro Dome was packed out with beautiful people for the event and originally was supposed to be hosted by Trevor Noah, but due to health issues, he couldn’t travel. That was not going to spoil the show, the replacement was the Queen of presenting and hosting, Miss Bonang Matheba! Her presence was accepted by the people and she was joined by the beautiful Nomzamo Mbatha and Nigerian music sensation, Yemi Alade – and needless to say, they killed it!

The king of The Dome, Cassper Nyovest, was clad in all black and he looked super dapper as he walked to accept his Best Live Act Award. His performance was a little teaser of #FillUpOrlandoStadium things to come next week… We hope you have your tickets.

Africa looked good last night:) The quality of the MAMA 2016 production and the quality from all the nominees and performers were top notch. Patoranking and Sarkodie brought the funk with their hit single, “No Kissing” in true West African style. The “God Over Everything” artist walked away with the Song Of The Year Award for “My Woman, My Everything” from that very album.

They took us back to the beach and we couldn’t be more proud of Kyle Deutsch and Shekhinah for scooping up the Best Pop/Alternative award. Go young SA! Speaking of young SA, another incredibly proud moment was when our boy from Ambitiouz, Emtee grabbed the crown for Best Hip Hop – 2016 defs belonged to this sweetheart.

The ladies from across Africa dressed to impress no doubt but then there were some fine styled guys as well. Good Golly Miss Molly!

A legend was honoured by MTV and his status speaks for itself, well more like he made an amazing speech and then Bra Hugh broke it down in fine style by rapping – Yaaas now, Hugh Masakela went hip-hop wild at The Dome.

Of course SA’s “national treasure” as Bonang so nicely stated, Babes Wodumo was in the building and she shut it down with “Wololo”. The tribute to Mandoza was very nostalgic and special as Kwaito royalty such as M’du and Trompies worked the stage with all his hits. RIP Mandoza:(

The man of the moment and truly making waves in Africa and the world was Nigeria’s superstar right now, Wizkid. His performance was phenomenal and we have to salute this guy who took The Best Male award, Best Collaboration award with DJ Maphorisa and DJ Bucks and the finest honour of Artist of the Year – Yeah baby!

Africa you beauty. You shine, you glow, you fascinating beam of light. We love you, we salute you. Well done to all the nominees!
